About Bridges for Women Online
In January 2005, the Bridges for Women Society signed a $400,000
three-year contract with the federal government’s Office
of Learning Technologies to develop a sustainable Online service
to help women abuse survivors in BC. These funds will help support
an Online Pilot Test of the proven Bridges Employability Program.
The three-year pilot will gradually expand service throughout
British Columbia enabling women to access the BFW Online curriculum
from their home computers or from designated Community Access
Program (CAP) sites free of charge. Bridges for Women Online was
launched in November 2004 and will run through to November 2007.
Currently, Bridges for Women Online is attracting women from
the North and South Island, the Okanagan and the North. Bridges
for Women Online is open to accept women from all over the province
and has engaged in marketing activities in the North and South
Island, the Okanagan and the North areas of the province. We will
commence marketing activities in the South in the Spring of ’07
For women who do not have a personal computer the Society has
partnered with Victoria Free-Net Association, South Island Community
Access Network (SICAN) and the Courtenay-based Islands Community
Network (ISCN). These partners offer free computer and internet
access through Community Access Program (CAP) sites located in
schools, community centres, libraries and other public spaces.
Bridges for Women Online will develop partnerships with similar
non-profits as it expands service around BC.
For women who live in rural or isolated areas, Bridges for Women
Online offers a way to be part of a community, a place to seek
confidential advice and a means to develop the skills required
to make life changes.
